Laravel and platform work

Hire PHP Developers

PHP engineers who work on systems that are already live. Laravel applications, WordPress and WooCommerce builds, and the older codebases that are still earning money and cannot simply be replaced.

Hire PHP Developers

What our PHP Developers do

Almost nobody hires PHP developers for a blank page. They hire them for a system that is already live, already earning, and already carrying a decade of decisions nobody wrote down.

That is a different skill from writing new Laravel. It is reading unfamiliar code carefully, changing it in small provable steps, and knowing which parts of a legacy system are load bearing and should be left alone. Engineers who enjoy that work are rarer than engineers who can write a fresh application.

We work across Laravel, WordPress and WooCommerce, and the older custom codebases that predate all of it. If the system is genuinely at the end of its life rather than merely neglected, we will say so, and our web application work is the honest next conversation.

What they build

The work this role actually does here, on client products that are live.

Laravel applications

Business applications, portals and SaaS products. Queues, scheduled jobs, multi-tenancy and the parts of Laravel people reach for once the easy version stops being enough.

WordPress and WooCommerce

Custom themes and plugins written properly rather than assembled from twenty third-party plugins that fight each other on every update.

Legacy modernisation

Older PHP that still works and still matters. Upgraded a version at a time, tests added first, without the freeze that a rewrite would need.

Integrations and APIs

Payment gateways, ERPs and internal systems, built so a failed call retries rather than losing an order.

What they know

Named rather than implied, so you can check it against your own job description before we talk.

Is this the right way to buy?

Hire this way when

  • A Laravel or WordPress system is live and needs a permanent pair of hands
  • An old PHP codebase has to be upgraded without stopping the business
  • Your last developer has left and nobody knows how the system works
  • You need someone who can read code they did not write

Look elsewhere when

  • You are starting fresh and are not committed to PHP, where the stack is worth deciding first
  • The requirement is a Shopify store, which is a different platform entirely
  • The work is one bug, where a support arrangement fits better than a hire
  • You want a rewrite quoted before anyone has read the existing code

How hiring runs

  1. Tell us the gap

What the team is building, what is missing, and how long you expect to need it. A rough answer is enough to start.

  2. Profiles within a week

You get a shortlist of engineers who are actually free, with the work they have shipped here. Not a database of people we would have to recruit first.

  3. You interview them

Technical interview, pair programming, take-home, whatever your normal process is. You decide, not us. Nobody joins your team without your yes.

  4. They start inside your process

Your repository, your board, your standups, your review standards. We do not run a parallel process alongside yours.

Agreed before anyone starts

Written into the contract rather than promised on a call. These are the terms people forget to ask about until they need them.

You interview and approve every engineer before they start

One month notice either way, so neither side is trapped

A replacement at our cost if someone is not working out in the first month

Code, accounts and credentials are yours from the first commit

An NDA before any of your systems are discussed, not after

No recruitment fee if you later hire someone permanently

Questions we get asked

Will they push us to rewrite everything?

No. A rewrite is the most expensive option and usually the wrong one. Our default is to add tests, upgrade in steps and improve the parts you actually touch.

Can they work on a codebase with no documentation?

Yes. That is most of this work. The first output is usually a written map of how the system actually behaves, which is worth having regardless of what you do next.

Do you do WordPress properly, or just install plugins?

Custom themes and plugins written as code, reviewed and version controlled. Where a good third-party plugin exists we use it and say why.

What PHP versions do you work with?

Anything from 5.6 upward in practice, though we will be blunt about the security position of anything below 8.1 and what it would take to move.

Tell us what your team is missing.

Send the role, the stack and how long you expect to need it. You get profiles of engineers who are actually free, not a sales call.

No sales sequence. One person reads this and replies. Rather give more detail?
